A note about The Sandman's entrance ...

By having ECW at bigger venues where Smackdown! is taped, it gives the show a hack feel, and that was most evident to me during Sandman's entrance, who started his beer-mashing all the way up in the crowd at the sometimes-used Vince McMahon luxury box (when he watches matches from afar for storyline purposes) and had to wiggle his way down.

The bottom line is this: The Sandman's entrance -- like ECW itself -- just doesn't have the same effect in a big arena. It kind of reminds me of Hulk Hogan's entrance in WrestleMania III, where everyone used the cart except Hogan, who then took FOREVER to get to the ring.

Throw in the "smart mark" fact that Sandman was catering to a non-ECW crowd, it just made the whole entrance -- and the entire affair -- seem out of place.

Were there no Bingo Halls in the area?

Until next time, I remain The Wrestling Mark.

Vince is probably too cheap to spring for an additional venue. If the Raw and Smackdown teams travel seperately and use different venues, so too should ECW. If not, it seems like i'm watching Heat or Velocity.

Sandman's entrance on their first show was laughable. No crazed fans hanging onto the guy, draping their arms around him. Watch his intro again, the guys in the background when he opens his first beer seem disgusted with the whole ordeal.

It looked completely out of place when was he was drinking the beer the people behind him got a disgusted look on their face and tiptoed back a few steps to avoid being sprayed by the booze.

The SmackDown crowd makes it feel even more like a WWE show than it already is, for example the cheering for Cena.

I think you both touched on important points -- Sandman's entrance was truly laughable because of all the points hajile described, and the fact that the crowd was disgusted with the beer gag was such a bad sign that ECW should not be at SD arenas.

Let's put it this way -- if Austin drank beer in the crowd, the same people who were disgusted would have LOVED it.
