A rare column...

I was asked to fill in for Daniels over at Inside Pulse Wrestling this morning, so enjoy!

A very good read, and I think that you should be one of the people to write about ECW on a regular basis. Why, you ask? Because, like you wrote, you were never really into ECW - and thus, you can represent a huge portion of the people watching the show.

I've been a fan of ECW since Shane Douglas threw down the old belt. I know what Sandman's character is about (not "Hardcore Hak"). I know why Balls Mahoney should be feared inside the ring (not "Xanta Claus"). I know why Sabu is considered a badass (not from his crappy no finish against Mysterio at ONS. The man duct-taped his freaking jaw together before to continue a match, and I'm supposed to believe a weak table spot would take him out?).

The average WWE fan, however, does not. Your point about them "introducing" the characters was an excellent idea. In the time it took them to throw together a zombie and show the Taz/Lawler "match" at ONS, they could've ran a few shorts on some of the characters to introduce them to the audience.

Run a one-minute promo on each of the old ECW wrestlers before having them wrestle. They can't expect these guys to be as over as they were in ECW without showing why we should care about them, first. To the average WWE fan or person new to the ECW wrestlers, this must've seemed like an hour of jobbers.
